Description :
Beaufield has decided to divide the Troilus area claim blocks into two main groups. The one which is 100% owned by Beaufield contains the Tortigny, Moleon, Crab Lake and Inco Boulder areas. The other group consists mostly of newly staked claims. These are referred to as the Frotet groups. On October 20,2008, Beaufield entered into an option agreement to advance exploration of the New groups, where by Melkior will earn a 50% interest on the New groups by spending $500,000 on exploration over a three year period.
The Tortigny and Frotet properties are located in the western Superior Province, lie within the Frotet-Evans Greenstone belt. The Frotet-Evans Belt extends some 250km from Lac Mistassini to the Nottaway River. It consist of a volcano-sedimentary assemblage, two volcanic piles composed of thick sequences of basalt and andesite interbedded with minor layers of rhyolite, pyroclastic rocks and intermediate to felsic volcaniclastic material, separated by a sedimentary basin composed of siltstone, mudstone and wacke.
The exploration in the Tortigny-Frotet area began in 1957, when the discovery of a Cu-Ni rich mineralized boulder started an intense period of staking and the funding of an airborne MAG-EM survey. The first showing found in 1958-1959 was hosted in veins and revealed an interesting copper-gold or gold potential (C. Gosselin, 1996). In 1961 the volcanogenic Baie Moléon deposit, with historical inferred resources of 184,000 tons at 3.4% Zn and 1.56% Cu, was discovered and occurrences (Yorbeau and Diléo) were found.
The area’s potential in base metals was truly be established in 1970 with the discovery of the Lessard deposit, with historical inferred resources of 905,000 tons at 3.3% Zn, 1.8% Cu, 38.4 g/t Ag and 0.69 g/t Au. In 1987 Kerr Addison explored the northern half of the area and discovered an important porphyritic-type deposit, being the Troilus Mine (49 Million tons at 1.38 g/t Au, 1,23 g/t Ag and 0.12% Cu.
In 1993 Inco discovered the PK Showing, increasing the interest in volcanogenic mineralizations (Zn-Cu-Ag-Au) in the area. In 1994 Noranda unearthed the Tortigny deposit. In 1996, SOQUEM’s exploration projects lead to the discovery of the De Maurès.
Tortigny hosts a copper-zinc-silver deposit with a historic resource reported in a feasibility study in 1997 by Geostat Systems International Inc. for Mine & Exploration Noranda Inc. of 489,900 tons at 2.21% Copper, 6.15% Zinc, 61.08 g/t Silver and 0.31 g/t Gold. (The resource is not compliant with NI43-101).
